Angel Signs and the 8 of Clubs

Boy, when you ask the angels for signs, they deliver.  But you still need to do a little work.  A little "sleuthing" if you will.  You have to heighten your awareness, have faith your signs will come, and trust what you see.  Lose those fears and expectations, gumshoe.  And don't ignore anything out of the ordinary.  You never know when the 8 of Clubs will suddenly cross your path and invite you on an inner journey of extraordinary significance...

In order to get familiar with what to expect, I did some internet research on common signs the angels use to comfort people and let them know they exist.  Reports of feathers, coins, rainbows, songs or sentences with the word "angel" in them, angel images, and repetitive number sequences are typical.  In fact, Doreen Virtue, a renowned expert and channel of the angelic realms, reveals the meanings and messages behind certain numbers that you can check out here, or in her books, Angel Numbers 101: The Meaning of 111, 123, 444, and Other Number Sequences, and Healing With the Angels

On the day I expected my "big sign" to arrive, I ended up encountering a slew of smaller signs, most of which appeared to me during my afternoon jog.

Prior to getting my workout clothes on, I noticed 11:11 on my microwave clock.  While I have grown accustomed to seeing this (mysterious 11:11 sightings have haunted and plagued me for years), it still startles me, especially since I always catch it at the top of the minute, allowing me to stare it down for close to 50 seconds before it switches.  It boggles me.  (That, and the fact that we figured out how to build tunnels underwater).  I seem to be intuitively programmed to do this.  It's not like I constantly glance up at the clock and eventually happen to see it.  It occurs the first time I decide to check the time.  This morning it startled me twice as much because of my new understanding of numbers as angel signs.  As Virtue explains in Healing With the Angels:

"Your angels often communicate messages to you by showing you sequences of numbers...they subtly whisper in your ear so that you'll look up in time to notice the clock's time or a phone number on a billboard."

Like all other number sequences, the ones have a specific meaning.  She describes them as a gentle reminder to focus on what you want.  "This sequence is a sign that there is a gate of opportunity opening up, and your thoughts are manifesting into form at record speeds."

(Steve Pavlina has an equally fascinating perspective on the 11:11 phenomenon that I found helpful.  Read his blog article about it here.)

After a good stretching session, I set out on my afternoon jog around my quaint little West Hollywood neighborhood.  Two blocks into my run a crow surprised me.  I like to stay in the street along the curb, and I didn't see the bird until practically stepping on it.  It had been standing on the grass just next to the curb behind a garbage can.  We startled each other, the encounter leaving him flapping his wings and me jumping sideways.  I actually don't think I've ever gotten that close to a crow without it flying away first.  This one stood his ground.  Definitely a standout moment.  I see tons of crows all the time, and I'm beginning to think that the crow is my totem animal.  My animal spirit guide.  Or at least one of them.  Heck, I even wore felt wings and played the "Friendly Crow" in a college production of Pinocchio.  Crows represent change, opportunities, creation and manifestation, and "newness on the horizon".  They give us strength, and teach us to watch for signs and trust our intuition.  Like my 11:11 thing, the bird was nothing new, but meaningful nonetheless.

When I finish jogging, I usually walk about eight blocks to cool down and enjoy the feeling a good workout leaves me with.  I like to focus on all the things I'm grateful for during this time.  Along my walk I noticed a small white feather in the grass.  I questioned its validity, however, when I had to bend down to make sure it wasn't just a tiny piece of fuzz.  It looked like it had come from a scraggly pigeon's underbelly.  It lacked the beauty I would expect an angel feather to have.

Cut to several blocks later, when I passed a home with elaborate landscaping.  All of the lawn sprinklers sprayed water droplets into the air in perfect harmony.  I must have seen three or four rainbows as I meandered by.

On the next block I steered over to this one house I simply adore.  When the For Sale sign went up, I dreamed of buying it.  The day of the open house, I went over and checked out the interior.  The kitchen is so charming I want to introduce it to my father, and then join a Jane Austen book club and bring it to meetings with me.  When the sale ended and the new lucky stiffs moved in (I mean, master manifestors--sorry), I continued to drive past it on my way home, trying to convince myself I lived there and I parked my car in that driveway.  I'm not crazy, I just think there's something to be said for changing your beliefs to fit what you want in life.  If I don't ever believe I live there, I never will.  And I plan to live there one day.  (Keep your fingers crossed that the current owner guts out the "stunning original tile bath"!)  *shudder*

Anyway, on this day, I noticed a flyer stuck in the front door, and without walking up to the porch, I could make out a large number 4 taking up the whole middle of it.  (In Doreen Virtue's essential book, Angel Numbers 101, the number 4 means, "The angels are with you.  They send you the number 4 to reassure you that they've heard your prayers and are helping you.")

Later that night, as I headed up to the mailbox to mail a Netflix, I noticed a playing card on the sidewalk, face up.  The Eight of Clubs.  How odd and random.  I shrugged and left it there and headed back to my computer to do some googling.  Turns out that the Eight of Clubs has several meanings, especially in the tarot world.  In fact, I found a terrific description of the card on a Metasymbology website.  Why, that sounds like an exact description of a Divine Sleuth if I ever heard one!

It gets better.  In the book, Simply Fortune Telling with Playing Cards by Jonathan Dee, Mr. Dee mentions that the card signifies money coming into the questioner's life.  I liked hearing that, but the next two paragraphs stopped me dead in my tracks:

"The card is also an indicator of a return of peace of mind.  Worry will fade.  It may not disappear, but there will be a growing realization that there is more to life than the questioner's own petty concerns..."

"The card also suggests a journey, a voyage of discovery.  The main things to be discovered, of course, are the questioner's own true self and the path to inner tranquility."

That would definitely be the Divine Sleuth card.

To be honest, I hadn't even hashed out the name or theme for this blog by that time, I just knew I had to write one.  Looking back on the event I find that the card ties everything together so beautifully.  The angels knew I wanted to share my experiences, they inspired me with the idea to start a blog, and then threw in a fitting symbol my subconscious would respond to.  They were quietly nudging me forward.

I dreamed up "The Divine Sleuth" about a week after reading about the card's meaning (and promptly forgetting about it).  And until writing this entry, it never even occurred to me that the card was a sign of this blog--this literary "voyage of discovery"--coming to fruition.  I hadn't made the connection.  Now you're seeing the card and reading about it here (nothing is by accident), and perhaps embarking on your own "path to inner tranquility"; a journey full of questioning and listening and awakening to what you knew all along.  The 8 of Clubs can change so many lives!  How many more spiritual investigations will be launched as a result of this card?  How many self discoveries will be made?  How many Divine Sleuths will begin searching for their own divine truths?  My mind is absolutely spinning right now.

Funny enough, I found yet another webpage about reading tarot cards that gave me this fortune:

"Eight of Clubs:  There is about to be great activity in your love life.  Things are going to move quickly."

I should mention that one to Sgt. Gray...

At any rate, a synchronicity happened days later with Miss Scarlet's father regarding the enigmatic Eight of Clubs.  Miss Scarlet's entire family flew to LA to visit, but events unfolded in a most unfortunate way for Miss Scarlet's boyfriend's uncle, who passed away.  While Miss Scarlet and her man attended the wake, I took her family around town to various thrift shops and fabric stores.  (Her father loves to work on cars, take long walks on the beach and perform daring feats with a sewing machine.  Go figure!)  I've gotten to know the Scarlet family quite well over the years and always find it a pleasure to spend time with them, so naturally I jumped at the chance to host them for the afternoon.

Pico Blvd. houses about five fabric stores in a cluster near Overland.  In one of the stores, my attention fell on a ream of fabric with a playing card pattern.  It reminded me of my Eight of Clubs incident so I told Scarlet's dad about it.  He stood there listening in shock and then proceeded to point out the goosebumps appearing all over his arms.  "Jennifer, I can't believe you're telling me this.  Eight is the symbol for money.  You gotta carry an 8 in your wallet.  You didn't pick it up???  I gotta show you something.  Jennifer, you're killing me.  I can't believe you.  Look at this."  He pulled out his wallet and extracted a folded piece of paper.  He unfolded it to reveal a large, handwritten number 8.  He went on.  There was no stopping him.  "Jennifer, you've gotta go back and get that card.  Jennifer, you're killing me.  Did you know I've been carrying this in my wallet?  Are you kidding me with this?  This happened to you and you didn't know what it meant?  If you see an 8 on the ground you gotta put it in your wallet so money will come to you.  I once saw an address number in the middle of the street.  It must have fallen off of a mailbox.  It was the number 8.  It got crushed by a truck but I still ran out into the rush hour traffic and grabbed it."  Like a scene right out of Frogger, this man had risked death to attain an 8 for his wallet.  The message hit home.  I was an idiot.  By this point, I felt beyond remorseful for leaving the card.

When I got home later that night, I ran to the spot where I had seen it.  I must have searched for half an hour.  It was gone.  I found an old deck in my drawer and ended up taking the Eight of Clubs from there and putting it in my wallet.  Then I checked Doreen Virtue's book, Angel Numbers 101 for the meaning of the number 8, and it turns out he was right.  Abundance and prosperity indeed.

It's baffling how much meaning an object can hold.  And how I could walk right past a symbol of such significance without it "speaking" to me.  Similarly, at dinner, Scarlet's dad quipped, "You know, nothing spoke to me at the fabric stores today."  Gotta love that guy.

(Addendum:  A synchronistic event occurred two days before I wrote this post regarding the number 8.  My uncle, Wadsworth, emailed several family members a link from a celebrity numerologist's website that mentions putting the digit in your wallet to attract riches.  I must have accidentally deleted the email before getting to read it, however my mom just forwarded it to me.  Aware of the encounter I had with Scarlet's dad, she couldn't believe the coincidence.  I'm not surprised the Universe found yet another way to communicate the message of the number 8 to me in one week.)

But back to the angels.  I talked to them that night (by automatic writing) about all of my signs and asked why I hadn't received one "big sign".  I still felt too new at this, and I questioned some of the little things that seemed more confusing than obvious.  They replied:

"Basically, we wanted to shower you with little reassurances throughout your day to gauge your level of awareness.  Little oddities, little sudden weird things.  We orchestrated it all based on your vibrations.  The big signs you seek can’t align with you yet.  But you are rapidly getting there."

Well, it's nice to know the best is yet to come!

Hey,
I am A Christian and lately i have been having a feeling angels are trying to contact me but I'm not sure. I learned awhile back that they usually don't help unless you ask but they are happy to help when asks..they WANT to help. And then yesterday I heard the words "8 of clubs" in my head and i came across your page...Is there any other information you could give me? I am seeking answers to questions and am very confused lately and also I have the same experience with looking at the clock at a certain time like 11:11, 12:12 etc and also like any time with 56 at the end.

Hi, I'm honestly shocked after reading your story. A couple of years ago, I decided to mess around with a deck of cards. I'd shuffle them up, then see what card I drew. Seven times in a row I drew the 8 of clubs. It kind of scared me, but I decided it was my lucky card so I kept it in my wallet. Shortly after that, any time I played any card game, I would always win. Then I decided to research it tonight and found out it was a holy card! Looking back, I've noticed a lot of the stuff you posted was about the same for me. I feel happy knowing that my lucky card is also an angelic symbol :D
